Fun with Literacy!

Students are working hard on writing during literacy time.  They are looking and reading different books for our inquiry on the post office.  They are writing sentences.  :)
This is a fun literacy game!  Students have a die and roll it and see what number it lands on.  Then they have to practice writing a sight word that corresponds to the dot(s)/number(s) on the die.
This is the same literacy activity with letters of the alphabet.  :)

Post Office Inquiry!

Students have been enjoying our post office inquiry so far!  They have been helping with the set up and are excited to have fun writing letters.  Check out our post office pictures.  :)
All materials are organized in labelled bins (paper for letters, postcards, envelopes, stamps, etc.)

Students enjoy mailing their letters and postcards in our classroom mailbox.  At the end of each school day, we have students get the opportunity to read and share their mail with their classmates.

This is the writing area of our post office.  There are examples of sentences students can write in the white cup as well as making up their own.

Students came up with a lot of these sentences for our post office.

We put up names of all students and staff in the classroom to help with writing our letters and postcards.

Frozen Yogurt and Spirit Day (Twin Day) :)

A friendly reminder :)

Frozen yogurt is being sold at first recess.  If you would like your child to have frozen yogurt, please send $1.00 to school in a zip lock bag labelled with your child's name.  Thanks!

Also, we have spirit day tomorrow.  It is twins day.  Students had the opportunity to discuss with one another about what they will wear for twin day.  :)

Making words is fun! :)

Measurement in Math!

We have started learning about measurement in math.  Students are learning to measure using non-standard units (e.g., snap cubes, math links, markers, crayons, counters) to measure a variety of objects.  Students have learned that it is very important to measure objects accurately and carefully.  They have communicated their results (e.g.This book is 10 snap cubes long).

Students can have fun measuring at home.  They can use non-standard measuring units (e.g., Q-tips, pencils, crayons, post-it notes).  They can measure how tall or how long an object is (e.g., kitchen table, television)  An example is our kitchen table is 20 pencils long.

We look forward to having more fun with measurement!  :)

More Literacy Fun!

Amazing work from a student!  Students stamped the pictures on paper and wrote the missing beginning, middle or last letter of a word.

Math Fun!

Students had fun with a new math activity.  There are different numbers from 2-10 on the snowman pictures.  Students are given 2 dice and they need to roll both dice.  Then they need to see how many dots they have in all on both dice and add the dots to get the number to build their tower.  Then they need to build a tower using the snap cube blocks.  Check out students work below.  :)
